The USGS Southeast Ecological Science Center in Davie, Florida is offering a grant through the Cooperative Ecoystem Studies Unit for genetic analyses of biological samples from threatened and endangered sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic, and Caribbean. The grant aims to analyze skin and blood samples to determine population abundance, reproductive parameters, and connectivity among sea turtle populations to help in conservation efforts. The closing date for applications is June 7, 2015.

Description: | The USGS Southeast Ecological Science Center, Davie, Florida is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for genetic analyses of biological samples from threatened and endangered sea turtles. The sea turtle biological sample dataset is comprised skin (tissue) and blood samples from in the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic, and Caribbean. Previous studies including nest monitoring and mark-recapture provide preliminary information on population abundance, reproductive parameters and connectivity. Intensive sampling of multiple species and populations has resulted in a large number of biological samples. Analysis of these samples will allow us to reveal effective population sizes for these assemblages and connectivity among groups. |
