Description:: The purpose of this program is to support strengthening of integrated public health laboratory systems, surveys and surveillance, and TB/HIV programs in Ethiopia. Strengthening quality assurance system at all tiers of the laboratory network with decentralization of external quality assessment (EQA), accreditation of laboratories, an integrated specimen referral system for specialized testing, capacity building of regional laboratories, implementation of a comprehensive equipment maintenance strategy, systematic expansion of laboratory information systems, and evaluation and implementation of better diagnostic technologies are important objectives articulated in the national laboratory master plan. The program will also focus on the development of laboratory capacity to detect multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) at national and regional levels.
