The Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) department is offering a grant aiming to expand the Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) portfolio by integrating various chemical and biological upgrading technologies for advanced biofuel and hydrocarbon production. This grant encourages the production of a wide range of fuels and chemicals beyond ethanol utilizing biologically or chemically derived feed streams like cellulosic alcohols, bio-solids, and more. Applicants are required to apply through the EERE eXCHANGE website and are expected to exclude lignocellulosic sugars as allowable fuel intermediates. For more details and application guidelines, visit the EERE Exchange website before the closing date on June 13, 2014.

Description: | EERE seeks diversification of the Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) portfolio to include a variety of chemical and biological upgrading technologies for the production of a suite of hydrocarbon fuels, fuel intermediates and chemicals (beyond ethanol) to be produced in an integrated fashion from biologically or chemically derived intermediate feed streams, such as but not limited to cellulosic sugars, lignocellulose derivatives, lignin, cellulosic alcohols, bio-solids and biogases. For the purposes of this FOA lignocellulosic sugars will not be allowable fuel intermediates.
