Department of Interior Grant: Natural Resource Management and Ecological Restoration in the Redwood Creek Watershed

This project supports the Secretary⿿s priority to ⿿utilize science to identify best practices⿝ (1.a.) for managing natural resources in Muir Woods and other parts of the Redwood Creek watershed, one of the sites within Golden Gate National Recreation Area. This task agreement will facilitate collaboration on natural resources management including native plant restoration, invasive plant management, wildlife monitoring, citizen science, project planning, vegetation mapping and associated reporting within the Redwood Creek Watershed. This collaborative project will use the best available science to manage the Redwood Creek Watershed.

By working with land management partners including California State Parks, we will maximize efficiency and streamline processes which also supports the Secretary⿿s priorities to ⿿examine land use planning process and land use designations that govern public use and access⿝ (1.b.) and to ⿿shift the balance towards providing greater public access to public lands over restrictions to access⿝ (1.g.). Our management actions will result in improvement management of the Redwood Creek Watershed including healthy forest regeneration and enhancement of fisheries within the Redwood Creek watershed. Actions accomplished through this task agreement will result in an improved visitor experience and wildlife viewing opportunities in this highly visited area of the park.
This project directly supports the trails program within the Redwood Creek watershed. Work under this project includes collaboration with the trails program and support in planning and implementing trails projects which supports the Secretary⿿s priorities to ⿿Prioritize DOI infrastructure needs⿝ (8.c.2&3)
Finally, this project supports the Secretaryâ¿¿s priority to create jobs in the American economy through the hiring of biologists to implement this project.
