| Description: | Knowing the condition of natural resources in national parks is fundamental to NPSs mission to manage park resources unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations. Thus, NPS has implemented the Vital Signs Monitoring Program.
The Vital Signs Monitoring Program is an important component of the Mojave Desert Network Inventory and Monitoring (MOJN I&M) Program. Vital signs are a suite of indicators that represent the overall health or condition of park resources. MOJN I&M has developed standardized monitoring protocols to collect scientifically rigorous data on a prioritized set of vital signs. These monitoring protocols will help the parks manage their natural resources in perpetuity. The focus of this agreement is the MOJN I&M Integrated Upland (IU) monitoring protocol, which is designed to monitor vegetation change, invasive species, and soil resources in upland communities. |
