The US Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 7 is providing funding to the Alaska SeaLife Center for decommissioning captive flocks of spectacled and Steller’s eiders. The grant aims to support the development of a three-year decommissioning plan, facilitating the transfer of birds to other AZA institutions for potential eider recovery efforts. The ASLC may also seek additional funding opportunities to maintain a smaller captive flock. No proposals are being accepted, with funds dedicated to transitioning the captive flocks in Seward, Alaska.

| Description: | The US Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 7 intends to award a single source financial assistance agreement as authorized by 505 DM 2.14 (B) to the Alaska SeaLife Center. This notice is not a request for proposals and the Government does not intend to accept proposals. Funds will support initial steps under a longstanding partnership in decommissioning of captive flocks of spectacled and Steller’s eiders at the Alaska SeaLife Center (ASLC) in Seward, Alaska. Our goal is to work with ASLC to develop a three-year decommissioning plan that will allow for birds at the ASLC to be transported to additional Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) institutions who may have interest in eider recovery, and for ASLC to seek additional funding sources should they choose to maintain a smaller captive flock. |
