The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Oregon and Washington is offering a grant through the Vale Plant Conservation Program for the continued monitoring of Mulford’s milkvetch. This grant aims to support botanical conservation efforts to manage and recover federally listed, rare, and native plants in the sagebrush steppe ecosystem. Projects may include plant and community monitoring, seed collection, rare plant inventory, and development of restoration techniques. Partnerships with the BLM since 2009 have focused on studying Mulford’s milkvetch population trends, grazing effects, and comparing population dynamics across States. Application deadline is August 19, 2016.

| Description: | The Vale Plant Conservation Program works with partners to conserve, understand, manage and recover federally listed, rare plants, and important native plants and their plant communities, particularly sagebrush steppe, throughout the BLM Vale District. Currently, the Vale District has funding available to continue long term monitoring of Mulford’s milkvetch. The BLM has been working with partners since 2009 conducting studies and monitoring Mulford’s milkvetch. The goals of monitoring has been to 1) document long-term trends in population size and structure; 2) determination of the effects of grazing on population size and reproduction; and 3) comparison of Oregon population dynamics with that of population dynamics in other States.
The principal purpose/objective of this plant conservation program is to support botanical conservation with projects of mutual interest/benefit to assist in the conservation and improved management and recovery of native plants and their habitats. Projects will include, but are not limited to, plant and community monitoring, seed collection, rare plant inventory, creation of species management plans, and developing restoration techniques/protocols. |
