Description:

The project will be collecting 10 stories of site locations along the Missouri River that are associated with Hidatsa, Nueta, and Sahnish cultures. Curriculum will be created for primary, middle, high schools along with college and adult learns. College students from the Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College will be interview 10 elders of the sites and will get each languages name for the site along with the video of the elder and site to uploaded to the NPS site Story maps. This website will be used along with the curriculum. This project provides the public opportunities to learn about American Indian history of North Dakota through the eyes and stories of the Hidatsa, Nueta, and Sahnish people. The curriculum that will be developed will be available to all to use. The intended impact is to boost the revitalization of the Hidatsa, Nueta, and Sahnish languages along with historical knowledge of place name and stories. The youth will have a physical location for the sacred and historical stories of the MHA tribes. This project is designed to engage a small audience by engage students in the classroom. The outcome of data collected will impact a larger audience also. This project is a replica model along with the curriculum that will be written. The Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College (NHSC) is the local tribal college for the MHA Nation. The students and teachers involved will either be involved with the culture by being a member of the tribe or affiliated through other means. The college also teaches each of the three languages and has close connections with MHA Education office for other resources. These resources cannot be found any other place besides on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation and NHSC.
