Additional Information

Agency Name: National Park Service
Description:

This is NOT a request for applications.

This is just a public notice that a TA has been entered into with the Potomac Conservancy. Over the project period Potomac Conservancy will:
• Increase the total number of on-water experiences offered to at least 10 annually.
• Increase the number of participants by 600 (50% increase).
• Test new engagement strategies and programs, and scale the successful ones in future years.
• Enable participants to get involved in stewardship activities to support the Bay clean-up.
• Make the river’s resources accessible through online communications and the progressive photo journal series to all in our 23,000-person community, whether they come to a paddle themselves or not.
• Start program participants on a life-long journey of loving the river and understanding the rich resources of the Potomac and the national trails in the Potomac River corridor.

This award is specifically targeted to enhance recreational and recreational learning access to the Potomac River in the greater Washington, DC area, and as such directly supports the Secretarial priority to enhance access to outdoor recreation opportunities.

This project is funded through a Task Agreement under Master Cooperative Agreement P17AC00756. Master CA P17AC00756 was entered into by the NPS Chesapeake and the Potomac Conservancy to enhance visitor experience through recreation and recreational learning opportunities along the Chesapeake National Historic Trail and other national trails of the Potomac River in the DC metro area. The Potomac is the only river in the U.S. that includes portions of five national trails-the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail, the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail, the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail and the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Together Potomac Conservancy and the NPS Chesapeake work to engage diverse audiences in public educational, recreational and stewardship opportunities along the national trails of the Potomac River in the DC metro area, supporting what is in essence an operational partnership for NPS.
