National Park Service: Back Country Archaeological Site Preservation Project

The 2019 project will include the periodic inspection and collection of site condition data at 50 backcountry archaeological sites at Wupatki, Sunset Crater and Walnut Canyon National Monuments. The projects motivate its youth participants to become involved in the natural, cultural and /or historical resource protection of their communities and beyond.
Cooperative Agreement Number P15AC00024 was entered into by and between the NPS and the Recipient for the purpose of completing important conservation projects, providing young adults with structured, safe and challenging work and educational opportunities through employment projects that promote personal growth, the development of life skills, and an ethic of natural resource stewardship. The principal purpose of the project is to support the Government’s objective to provide opportunities for youth to learn about the environment by spending time working on projects in National Parks. The NPS receives the indirect benefit of completing conservation projects. The projects motivate its youth participants to become involved in the natural, cultural and /or historical resource protection of their communities and beyond. Students gain “real world” or hands-on experience outside of the classroom of natural, cultural and/or historical resource projects.
