CCNRD is offering this grant to oversee the Upper White Pine Floodplain Reconnection Project in Nason Creek. The project involves removing anthropogenic site impacts to restore floodplain connectivity and improve aquatic habitat. The grant will fund actions to increase flood prone areas, enhance in-stream habitats, and provide off-channel rearing for endangered species like steelhead and spring Chinook. As part of the restoration, the project will also include relocating a section of transmission line to White Pine road. Applications for this environmental grant must be submitted before the closing date on Aug 03, 2016.

Description: | With this financial assistance, CCNRD will provide oversight to the Upper White Pine Floodplain Reconnection Project. The work includes removal of anthropogenic site impacts (levee and infrastructure) to restore floodplain connectivity, channel migration processes, and improve in-stream aquatic habitat in Nason Creek. These actions will increase the flood prone area by 10 – 27 acres (2 year to 100 year event, respectively). This project will also add large woody material to increase pool quality and quantity and will increase the availability of off-channel rearing. Increasing access to floodplain and off-channel habitat for endangered species listed juvenile steelhead and spring Chinook will improve rearing (feeding/foraging) and refugia from high water flows and predators. In order to accommodate restoration actions, six power poles will be removed and that section of transmission line will be re-located to White Pine road. |
