Description:: | USSESSS intends to fund four projects, one within each of the priority areas detailed below. “Civil Society Capacity Building” — USSESSS seeks applications aimed at building the capacity of civil society organizations in Sudan. Specifically, USSESSS would like to focus on organizations addressing human rights issues. “Civil Society Cross-Cultural Exchange” — USSESSS seeks applications that will provide the opportunity for cross-cultural exchange with professionals from Sudan. Activities can take place within the United States. “Health” — USSESSS seeks applications for a program that will combat the practice of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) in Sudan. The practice of FGM/C violates basic human rights, generally lacks informed consent, and poses serious physical and mental health risks. It is a common practice throughout Sudan. Proposals should focus on preventing and/or addressing the negative consequences of FGM/C in Sudan. This could include raising awareness of the harmful health and human rights consequences of FGM/C, strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations or networks that are currently working to combat FGM/C in Sudan, working with community or religious leaders, and/or other creative ways to address this harmful practice. “Cross-Border Engagement with Women” — USSESSS seeks applications that will bring together, for training and network building, civil society organizations from both Sudan and South Sudan, which focus on gender equality and female empowerment. Training could include capacity building workshops that center on strengthening women?s effective engagement in decision-making, security initiatives, conflict prevention, and peace-building. Training should also focus on strengthening networks and collaboration between civil society organizations focused on gender equality and female empowerment in Sudan and South Sudan. Applications should describe projects that bring together individuals from each country and benefit each country equally. |
