BLM California Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit is offering a grant to Utah State University for a project aiming to develop a monitoring framework to assess aquatic and riparian resource condition. The project will focus on determining if management objectives are being met through targeted evaluations and testing a sample design for data collection. The grant supports a multi-year implementation plan to assess indicator measurement protocols, access considerations, and field personnel training needs. Closing date for applications is July 31, 2012.

Description:: | The purpose of this project is to develop a quantitatively-driven monitoring framework to establish and track aquatic and riparian resource condition and trend over time. This information will be used to determine whether or not aquatic and riparian resource conditions are meeting management objectives. The project will test a sample design that allows information derived from data collected to be extrapolated over the entire grazing allotment while continuing targeted evaluations on known areas of concern. A phased multi-year implementation approach is proposed that will permit testing of sample design, any proposed stratifications, indicator measurement protocols, access considerations including potential season restrictions, and training/skill needs of field-going personnel. |
