Additional Information

Agency Name: Geological Survey
Description: The United States Geological Survey (USGS) is offering a
funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research on the
ecology of wild [equids], mountain lions, and other
ungulates in the Western USA. Studies will be field-
based and will be conducted across several states,
primarily in Nevada.

The National Academies of Science (NAS) conducted a
science review of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)
wild horse and burro program. An outcome of this NAS
review was a number of recommendations for new research,
identification of data gaps and knowledge needs. The aim
is to fill some of those data needs with collaborative
research conducted jointly by USGS and CESU partners.

This funding opportunity is to investigate the
interactions of mountain lions and wild horses across the
Western USA. Specifically, will evaluate the role of
wild horses in native predator-prey systems, in herds
that span the Rocky Mountain region and Great Basin
ecosystems.
