| Description: |
Notice of intent to partner with Temple University under existing cooperative agreement. No applications will be accepted. Cooperative Agreement P14AC00154 was entered into By Temple University and NPS to provide education, job training, to develop responsible citizenship and encourage productive community involvement, as well as to further the understanding and appreciation of natural and cultural resources through the involvement of young adults in the care and enhancement of public resources. Students from local communities neighboring parks will receive hands-on training, academic-based class instruction, and summer internships as ProRangers working alongside NPS Law Enforcement Rangers and outdoor recreational experiences on public lands. Students participate in rigorous 12-week internships designed to provide hands-on experiences teaching them the various skills needed to perform the duties of Law Enforcement Rangers as well as assisting with various projects from other divisions. At the end of their internships, eligible students will attend the 19 week Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Program (SLETP) at Temple Ambler Campus. Temple’s SLETP is the only Academy in the Northeast that is certified by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board and the NPS Law Enforcement Training Center (LETC) to provide land management police training that qualifies its graduates for seasonal law enforcement commissions. Through this hands-on educational opportunity students will receive training that will prepare them for law enforcement careers. The ProRangers will be exceptionally well-prepared and job-ready. These experiences are geared to help shape and mold the students to fully understand and appreciate the NPS mission thus promoting a “public service” demeanor within that community and also improve dialogue with the public, increase the public trust and also expand the public’s knowledge of the nation’s resources. |
