Description: | This NIH Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), supported by funds from the NIH Common Fund (Common Fund) and participating NIH Institute(s) and Center(s), invites applications from foreign Institutions in African countries who wish to develop an H3Africa biorepository in order to provide an international site for the receipt, storage and distribution of samples from H3Africa research projects as well as other African genomic research studies. The NIH is partnering with the Wellcome Trust to provide support for H3Africa, an initiative to enhance the development of sustainable research capacity in Africa that will use genomics as a part of a cutting-edge approach to promote health and combat disease.
The purpose of this FOA is to call for applications for UH2/UH3 cooperative agreements that will provide funding to develop plans, building upon existing infrastructure, for initial two-year feasibility studies (Phase I) and then for an additional five years of support forfull-scale H3Africa Biorepositories (Phase II), beginning in 2014. The outcome of the feasibility studies will be fully developed plans for up to 3 H3Africa Biorepositories, with evidence that the challenges enumerated below have been overcome.Feasibility testing/planning activities may include testing proposed logistical approaches, training, developing collaborations and otherwise building or planning for additional infrastructure that will be needed for a full-scale repository. |
