The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is offering the Recovery Act – Correctional Facilities on Tribal Lands Program. This grant provides funding to eligible American Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages to construct or renovate correctional facilities on tribal lands, including multipurpose justice centers and alternative sentencing facilities. It also supports training and technical assistance providers. This grant is for enhancing tribal justice infrastructure by addressing detention bed space needs and violent crime statistics. Priority is given to projects with documented planning that are prepared to begin construction or renovation within 180 days. Eligible applicants include federally recognized tribes and organizations with national-level experience for the training component.
