The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Biological and Environmental Research (BER) is offering this grant to support genomic science research aimed at developing next-generation biofuels. This grant is for advancing DOE’s critical energy and environmental missions through innovative biosystems design. Specific research areas include the comprehensive design of microbial systems, leveraging advanced computer modeling and rigorous experimental validation to create functional biological modules essential for biofuel production. Furthermore, it seeks novel technologies for strategically redesigning bioenergy crops, enabling them to thrive in marginal environments while yielding high-quality biomass that is easily convertible into biofuels. Applicants are also required to address the potential societal implications stemming from engineered organisms. This initiative is crucial for driving innovation in sustainable energy solutions.
