The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is offering a grant for the design of the 2009 National Private Security Survey (NPSS). This grant aims to produce project specifications for a multi-survey data collection on private security officers, serving as a counterpart to the LEMAS collection. The NPSS will gather data on demographic characteristics, workload, clients, selection, training, and expenditures of a national sample of contract security companies and employers of proprietary security officers. Awardees will design data collection instruments for both contract and proprietary sides, develop three implementation plans based on varying sampling methodologies, and conduct an extensive literature review and secondary analysis of existing private security data sources. This grant is for an 8-month period.
