This grant, issued by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), is for the purpose of advancing translational research in pediatric and obstetric pharmacology. It aims to improve existing drug safety and efficacy, and facilitate the development of new drugs specifically for children and pregnant women. Key objectives include conducting pharmacological studies that address the unique differences in drug actions and responses across various developmental stages in children, between children and adults, and between pregnant and non-pregnant women. The funding also supports the development of novel therapeutic agents for these populations and fosters multidisciplinary collaborations between basic and physician scientists to optimize therapeutic practices in obstetrics and pediatrics. This initiative utilizes the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) mechanism to drive significant advancements in these critical areas of public health.
