Description: The U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) of the Department of State is pleased to announce, pending availability of funds, support for civil society reform initiatives that support the Broader Middle East and North Africa (BMENA) Initiative and the Forum for the Future process. In particular, MEPI seek to support projects that are consistent with the principles and goals of BMENA and the Forum process and translate them into tangible projects, including, but not limited to, the following areas: • Expansion of public participation in political life;• Legal environment for civil society;• Government-private sector-civil society cooperation;• Building the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) to support democratic reform and transition processes;• Benchmarking democratic reform progress in the region and reporting through performance indicators on the actions undertaken in each country to assess the level of the implementation of Forum’s objectives; and• Civil rights, including gender equity, freedom of opinion, freedom of expression and freedom of association; and promoting strong anti-corruption legislation and practices.
