Description: | Modification to expand purpose of agreement to include reproductive research and shipping of wolves and wolf carcasses. Modification to total funding amount to increase by $34,000 to cover above expenses.
PURPOSE The purpose of the Grant Agreement is to provide financial support to the Desert in order to fund Mexican Wolf Species Survival Plan (hereinafter referred to as SSP) activities submitted by participating SSP facilities that are determined to be important in the overall mission of ensuring a healthy, thriving, genetically diverse, captive Mexican wolf population for recovery of the species. This Grant Agreement provides a mechanism whereby the Desert serves as the administrator of the funds between the Service and participating Mexican Wolf SSP facilities to fund approved Mexican Wolf SSP activities. It is desirable to administer the funds in this manner in order to prevent the necessity of setting up Agreements with every Mexican Wolf SSP facility, which now numbers more than 45 facilities. The Director of Collections at the Desert also serves as the Mexican Wolf SSP Coordinator and therefore is the liaison between the Service and all participating Mexican Wolf SSP facilities. For this reason, and because of the Deserts historic and long-term association with the Mexican Wolf SSP, the Desert was selected to be the point of contact for this Grant Agreement. Under this Agreement, Mexican Wolf SSP facilities can request funding through the Desert for projects or activities related to the conservation of the species in captivity. Examples of projects or activities that will be considered for funding include, but are not limited to the following: Mexican Wolf SSP facility inspections, travel to and from SSP meetings and/or activities, research (e.g., semen collection), purchase of equipment or supplies, and unexpected/incidental costs. |
