This grant is for the purpose of designing and implementing a comprehensive bat survey and monitoring program at the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach Detachment Fallbrook in California. Utilizing scientifically accepted techniques and adhering to the 2006 MOU between the Department of Defense and Bat Conservation International, the project aims to identify bat species, locate roosts and foraging areas, and estimate populations on base. The collected data will inform the development of management practices to enhance bat habitats and reduce conflicts with mission activities. Additionally, the survey will assess areas where base operations and bat populations intersect, proposing solutions that balance essential mission requirements with vital bat conservation and environmental stewardship efforts. The initiative seeks to ensure the ecological well-being of bat populations while supporting operational needs.

| Description: | The purpose of this Agreement is the design and implementation of a bat survey on behalf of Naval Weapon Station (NWS) Seal Beach Detachment Fallbrook (Detachment Fallbrook) in Fallbrook, California. The work shall use scientifically accepted techniques designed to locate and identify species of bats that reside seasonally or permanently on the base and shall be designed and conducted in accordance with intentions of the MOU between the Department of Defense and Bat Conservation International signed in October 2006. Results from the bat surveys and data analysis shall provide details of bat activity on base including species richness, location of roosts, important foraging areas, population estimates, and suggested management practices designed to maintain and enhance the quality of habitats for bats using the base and reduced conflicts with mission activities. Additionally, the bat survey will assess areas where mission activities and bats may interface and recommend solutions that balance mission requirements with bat conservation and stewardship. |
