The Nevada Department of Wildlife is offering this grant for a fluvial geomorphology study of Meadow Valley Wash in southern Nevada. This vital stream, a key habitat, suffers from repeated floods and high sediment loads, damaging infrastructure, transportation, and natural resources in Caliente. The study’s purpose is to guide efforts enhancing watershed resilience, minimizing future flood impacts. This project covers approximately 25 miles of Meadow Valley Wash, from Antelope Canyon Wash to Kane Springs Wash, aiming to protect critical habitats and reduce flood damage.

| Description: | Meadow Valley Wash is one of the larger streams in southern Nevada. It provides important riparian and aquatic habitat for a variety of native wildlife, although it only has perennial flows in certain reaches. The watershed has been subject to repeated floods and high sediment loads causing damage in the City of Caliente, to transportation infrastructure, and to natural resources. The Nevada Department of Wildlife will conduct a fluvial geomorphology study to guide efforts in making the watershed more resilient to flooding so that damage to infrastructure and natural resources can be minimized. The project area includes an approximately 25-mile portion of Meadow Valley Wash (from Antelope Canyon Wash north of Caliente to Kane Springs Wash south of Elgin). |
