The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) offers Small Grants (R03) to support clinical scientists from underrepresented racial/ethnic backgrounds, disadvantaged backgrounds, or those with disabilities. This initiative aims to enhance diversity within the health-related workforce by increasing the number of highly trained clinical researchers. The grant is specifically for New Investigators holding a health professional or other clinical doctoral degree who are from groups underrepresented in biomedical research. Funded projects can include pilot and feasibility studies, secondary analysis of existing data, small self-contained research, or the development of research methodologies and new technologies. The R03 mechanism is designed for small research projects that can be completed within a short timeframe using limited resources, focusing on areas like diabetes, endocrinology, and kidney diseases.
