Agency Name: Geological Survey
Description: The USGS is offering a funding opportunity entitled, ¿Research and Data collection to understand the availability of protected areas data in the United States and analyses regarding their coverage and management intent.¿ This project has both policy research and data development and management components. The general purpose is to participate in a cooperative research and data collection effort. The recipients will work with multi-disciplinary colleagues to investigate the strengths and weaknesses of the existing data framework on documenting protected areas in the US. The process should be reviewed in light of contemporary social and organizational conceptions of the role of ¿biodiversity¿ in conservation and land management. This information should guide the data development and management aspect of the project, which is to update the existing Protected Areas Database of the US (PAD-US), a cooperative project sponsored by the USGS.
