| Description: | The US Fish and Wildlife Service, Headquarters Region 7 intends to award a single source Cooperative Agreement as authorized by 505 DM 2.14.B to Alaska Geographic Association. This notice is not a request for proposals and the Government does not intend to accept proposals. Award will be made 15 days after this notice. Purpose and Objectives: The purpose of this Agreement is to provide financial assistance to the Recipient, Alaska Geographic Association, in the support of collaborative work between the Recipient and the Refuge System in Alaska to further the work and accomplish objectives of the Refuge System and Service. The collaborative work will focus on producing an Interpretive Master Plan for the new Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. The Cooperator shall provide the necessary personnel, supplies, equipment, and services to conduct an interpretive planning process with the Interpretive Team and produce an Interpretive Master Plan. The Interpretive Team consists of approximately four interpretive resource specialists and other resource staff from the National Wildlife Refuge System in Alaska and Alaska Geographic. The Plan will document the planning process and the decisions made by the Services Interpretive Planning Team, graphically document how this might look, and direct the teams future interpretive research and writing efforts. The Center is expected to be approximately 6,500 square feet. Some of the possible interpretive components include indoor exhibits, videos, staff-led slide presentations, self-guided interpretive trails, on-site wayside exhibits, and outdoor informational kiosks. Alaska Geographic has worked with the Service and the Refuge System for over 30 years to plan and develop visitor facilities and products such as visitor center exhibits, interpretive programs, visitor guides, books, and refuge films. In addition, they have a stellar track record doing similar work for the National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management in Alaska. The aforementioned experience results in Alaska Geographic being an ideal partner to assist the Service in this important collaborative phase of the interpretive exhibit planning for the new Kenai Refuge Visitor Center. Alaska Geographic is the official Regional Cooperating Association/non-profit partner of the 16 national wildlife refuges in Alaska and has a Memorandum of Agreement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to perform such activities to enhance the publics understanding of Alaskas natural, cultural, and historic resources. Alaska Geographic has worked with the Service and the Refuge System to plan and develop visitor facilities and products such as visitor guides, books, and movies. In addition, they will be responsible for developing specific interpretive and educational products and events for the bookstore in which Alaska Geographic will operate within the new Kenai Refuge Visitor Center. Under the authority of the National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act of 1997 and the National Wildlife Refuge System Volunteer and Community Partnership Act of 1998, Alaska Geographic is an authorized partner to participate and collaborate on interpretive and educational projects such as the Kenai Refuge Visitor Center Interpretive Master Plan. |
