Description: The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Johnson Space Center is releasing a NASA Research Announcement (NRA), Cooperative Agreement Notice for Research and Technology Development to Support Crew Health and Performance in Space Exploration Missions. The goal of the Human Research Program (HRP) is to provide human health and performance countermeasures, knowledge, technologies, and tools to enable safe, reliable, and productive human space exploration. The scope of this goal includes both the successful completion of exploration missions and the preservation of astronaut health over the life of the astronaut.

On or about July 31, 2009 this NRA will be available electronically by opening the NASA Research Opportunities homepage at http://nspires.nasaprs.com/ and then linking through the menu listings “Solicitations” to “Open Solicitations.” This National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Research Announcement (NRA) solicits proposals for NASA and The National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI) components of the HRP.

Proposals are solicited by NASA in the areas of Sensorimotor, Muscle and Bone, Cardiovascular and Muscular Endurance, Intervertebral Disc Damage, and Advanced Food Technology. Proposals are solicited by the NSBRI in the areas of Cardiovascular Alterations and Smart Medical Systems and Technology.

Step-1 proposals are due on September 3, 2009, and invited Step-2 proposals are due on December 3, 2009. Proposals are required to be submitted electronically and must be submitted by an authorized official of the proposing organization.

Participation is open to all categories of organizations, including educational institutions, industry nonprofit organizations, NASA Centers, and other Government Agencies.
