The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is offering this grant to continue an essential vegetation and wildlife study in the Monticello Field Office area. This grant is for supporting an existing agreement to establish, maintain, and update exclosures that protect vital riparian and wetland habitats. These protected areas facilitate the collection of crucial data on various wildlife, including raptors, fish, amphibians, neotropical birds, and big game. The information gathered from these long-standing exclosures is instrumental for the appropriate management of riparian and upland areas, ensuring the continuation of important ecological studies. The data benefits natural resource specialists and agencies in effective land management.

Description: | This is a continuation of an existing agreement with Canyon Country Youth Corps to set up exclosures that protect riparian areas and wetland habitat for wildlife, particularly raptors, fish, amphibians, and neotropical birds. By protecting these areas from different uses, the BLM is obtaining much needed information about riparian and upland areas which are used by wildlife; including big game, amphibians, and fish. The exclosures already in existence will need maintenance and updated because they have years of data collection already associated with them and by continuing these projects; the recipient would be ensuring these important studies can continue. Upland exclosures provide information to appropriately manage large areas with similar use levels and vegetation types. This information is used by several natural resources specialists and agencies. |
