The U.S. Embassy New Delhi and its Public Diplomacy Section under the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to provide an in country reporting tour for emerging journalists in India. The applicant will organize tours for emerging journalists from print, digital, and broadcast outlets to see U.S. government (USG) programs in action, meet the beneficiaries of the programs, and talk on-the-record with a Mission India principal about the policy or goal behind the projects. Embassy New Delhi and each consulate will nominate five freelance journalists, journalism students, and/or early-career journalists working for a publication each, to participate in a press tour. The applicant will organize quarterly, two-day workshops for smaller groups of five divided by region/consular district. The workshops will conclude with site visits to USG program sites to meet with beneficiaries and implementers of the programs and hear how communities are benefitting from USG programs. Workshops will teach basic skills like fact-checking, conducting interviews, pitching stories to editors, and writing in AP style. The applicant will consult with PD New Delhi in developing the schedule to ensure buy-in, balanced workload, and manage other staffing resource considerations. The workshop series will end with an in-person representational event with all 25 participants. Each participant will also pitch at least two articles to SPAN magazine, strengthening the publication’s long-term ability to speak to key demographics in India.
