The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) offers the Stimulating Hematology Investigation: New Endeavors (SHINE) R01 grant. This program aims to promote innovative and high-quality basic and translational hematology research critical to NIDDK’s mission. It invites investigator-initiated research project grant applications focusing on specific, timely research topics, which are updated annually. Utilizing the R01 mechanism, the SHINE program allocated $1,250,000 in fiscal year 2010 to fund approximately 3-4 awards, complementing NIDDK’s regular funding policies. Future funding levels will depend on available funds and will be announced periodically.
