USSOCOM is offering this grant to solicit novel biomedical solutions aimed at preserving performance and saving the lives of Special Operations Forces (SOF) in challenging field environments. This grant is specifically for projects unique to SOF requirements, who often operate in austere, remote locations without immediate access to medical evacuation or advanced care. The material solutions sought must be characterized by ruggedness, light weight, small volume, and low power requirements, reflecting the unique demands of far-forward and isolated operations. USSOCOM also welcomes research leading to improved medical techniques and procedures that do not necessarily require new material solutions. The primary purpose is to address critical medical needs unique to SOF personnel operating in demanding, resource-constrained settings.

Description: | USSOCOM and SOF Unique Requirements. The USSOCOM seeks novel biomedical solutions to preserve the high level of performance and save the lives of Special Operations Forces (SOF) in field environments. Any projects proposed must be unique to the requirements of SOF who typically conduct combat operations in austere, remote locations without timely access to medical evacuation or elevated levels of medical care. It is these far-forward and/or isolated operations that make SOF medicine unique and result in material solutions characterized by ruggedness, light weight, small volume, and low power requirements. USSOCOM is also interested in research that will lead to improved techniques and procedures that do not necessarily require new material.
