The Wildlife Without Borders Latin America and Caribbean (WWB-LAC) program is offering this grant as a single-source continuation of its long-standing support for the Graduate Program in Conservation and Wildlife Management at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Costa Rica (UNA). This grant is for the purpose of training and capacity building for future conservation leaders in the region. Since 1985, WWB-LAC has funded UNA’s program, providing student scholarships, visiting professors, and practical field experiences. Managed through a two-year cooperative agreement, the initiative fosters an interdisciplinary, ecosystem-based approach to education. This successful partnership has already produced approximately 260 alumni actively working in the region.

Description: | This Single Source Award determination for this award is the continuation of an activity where holding a competition would have a significant adverse effect on completing the already funded activity. One of the primary strategic goals of the Wildlife Without Borders Latin America and Caribbean (WWB-LAC) program is to support training and capacity building initiatives for future generations of conservation leaders in the region. As such, the WWB-LAC program has supported the Graduate Program in Conservation and Wildlife Management at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Costa Rica since 1985 by providing funding for student scholarships, visiting professors, and practical field experiences that enhance coursework. The WWB-LAC funds will be managed through a two-year cooperative agreement that will allow WWB-LAC staff to work closely with the Graduate Program director and professors to include an interdisciplinary, ecosystem-based approach to training conservation leaders. The long partnership between Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Costa Rica and the WWB-LAC has been highly successful, with approximately 260 alumni working in the region to date. |
