The KRNCA Arcata Field Office is offering this grant for paleosol and geo-archaeological investigations along the Lost Coast within the King Range National Conservation Area. This grant is for the purpose of locating, mapping, recording, and dating ancient marine terraces potentially hosting Paleoindian cultural remains. The project will identify intact Late Pleistocene/Early Holocene marine terraces capable of preserving in-situ Paleoindian deposits. Research involves describing terrestrial marine terraces and their soils, applying dating techniques for age, and creating GPS maps of discoveries. This work aims to advance understanding of early human presence in the region.
