The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is renewing its Human Genome Reference Program (HGRP) and offering this grant to develop High Quality Human Reference Genomes (HQRG). This initiative aims to produce 200 new, very high-quality haplotype-resolved human genome assemblies. These genomes will be derived from diverse participants, consented for open access data release, and are crucial for the evolving human pangenome reference. The grant also supports an embedded team of ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI) scholars. This ELSI team will collaborate with the consortium to navigate complex topics like consent, data release, and data sovereignty. This is a limited competition opportunity, exclusively for organizations previously funded under RFA-HG-19-002.

Description: | The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) will renew the NHGRI Human Genome Reference Program (HGRP). This FOA seeks applications for the production of High Quality Human Reference Genomes (HQRG) as one of three components of the renewed HGRP. The HQRG component will lead the prioritization and selection of samples from diverse participants consented for open access data release, and, with those samples, produce 200 new, very high-quality haplotype-resolved human genome assemblies for inclusion in the human pangenome reference. The HQRG component will also include a team of ethical, legal and social issues scholars who will be embedded in the overall HGRP. This team will be integrated with the consortium to help identify and navigate topics raised by the development of a human pangenome resource, including consent, data release and sovereignty, definitions of diversity, and others that may arise over time. This is a limited competition RFA. Only recipient organizations funded under RFA-HG-19-002 are eligible to apply. |
