NIC Grant: Developing On-Demand Video Resources for Community Supervision Professionals

This is an opportunity to develop resources that will benefit the community supervision field at large and add to NIC’s video library for use in a number of NIC products. These items can be used to enhance knowledge on Evidence-Based Practices at every level of the organization and will provide a quick how to on skills needed to help facilitate behavior change. 

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the objective, balanced, and responsible use of current research and the best available data to guide policy and practice decisions, such that outcomes for consumers is improved. Originally used in the health care and social science fields, evidence-based practice focusses on approaches demonstrated to be effective through empirical research rather than through anecdote or professional experience alone. An evidence-based approach involves an ongoing, critical review of research literature to determine what information is credible, and what policies and practices are replicated with fidelity, and that new practices are evaluated to determine their effectiveness. In addition, there is a large body of research that demonstrates that when used effectively, Core Correctional Practices (CCP) lead to improved client outcomes, fewer technical violations and reduction in recidivism. Research demonstrates that the approach and skills of community supervision professionals can influence recidivism outcomes. CCP focus on increasing the effectiveness of treatment interventions and the therapeutic potential of relationships between justice-involved individuals and community supervision professionals. CCP focus on staff skills and one-on-one practices that community supervision professionals can use with justice-involved individuals to be more effective at changing behavior and reducing recidivism.

NIC welcomes applications that involve two or more entities; however, one eligible entity must be the applicant and the others must be proposed as subrecipients. The applicant must be the entity with primary responsibility for administering the funding and managing the entire program.
