The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Emergency Communications (OEC) is offering this Border Interoperability Demonstration Project (BIDP) grant, authorized by the 9/11 Commission Act, to address the critical need for interoperable emergency communications along U.S. international borders. This grant is for identifying solutions that enable emergency response providers to effectively communicate during natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made crises. DHS will select no fewer than six communities (at least three along the U.S.-Canadian border and three along the U.S.-Mexican border) to participate. Technical assistance and information sharing will be provided to participants. The overarching goal is to explore innovative and effective models for improving cross-border emergency communications systems that can be shared and adapted to other U.S. border communities.
