Description: The purpose of this limited competition is to extend the activities of the ASSESS AKI consortium to continue an observational cohort of patients with normal renal function and with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who have had an episode of AKI and appropriate control participants to ascertain a) long-term renal functional outcomes, b) long-term cardiovascular disease outcomes, c) quality of life and cognitive functional outcomes, and d) survival. In addition, the utility of putative biomarkers to predict short and long-term outcomes will be assessed. The extension will insure the statistical power and the significance of the study outcomes. The extension will insure the statistical power and significance of the study outcomes. The ASSESS AKI is comprised of three Participating Clinical Centers (PCCs) and a data Coordinating Center. An additional site was added as an ancillary study in 2010.
