This grant, offered by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), is for the purpose of utilizing DNA technology to identify missing persons. It aims to assist eligible entities, including states and local governments, in conducting DNA analysis on unidentified human remains and reference samples. A core objective is to support and enhance efforts to identify missing individuals across the nation. Grant recipients are required to enter the resulting DNA profiles into the FBI’s National DNA Index System (CODIS version 6.0). Furthermore, relevant case information concerning unidentified remains must be entered into NamUs. This initiative seeks to bolster forensic capabilities and improve the resolution of missing persons cases through advanced scientific methods.
