Additional Information

Agency Name: National Institutes of Health
Description: The purpose of this Limited Competition is to extend the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Study. The CRIC Study is a multi-center, prospective, observational cohort study of men and women with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The study includes seven Clinical Centers and their satellites and a Scientific and Data Coordinating Center. The CRIC Study, established in 2001, recruited a total of approximately 3,600 study participants. The study was previously extended by a limited competition in 2008. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) plans to again extend the study for another five years through this Limited Competition Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA). The primary objectives of this FOA are to continue to follow-up the originally recruited cohort of study participants, to better understand the risk factors for rapid decline in kidney function and cardiovascular diseases among persons with mild/moderate CKD, to examine in greater depth the morbidity suffered by patients with CKD and to explore the impact of CKD in elderly persons. Only organizations currently serving as grantees for this study are eligible to apply to this FOA.
