Additional Information

Agency Name: National Institute of Corrections
Description:

The day-to-day tasks of a probation/parole officer or other staff responsible for supervising people in the community are extensive, and without ongoing reminders and support, new skills learned in training can become a faded memory. Freeing staff to attend training is ideal and a critical component of a professional workforce, but it is often challenging, both in time and cost. Staff who have participated in training on gender-responsive strategies recognize that there are significant differences between working with women and men. Gender-responsive training tips and prompts are designed to remind staff of research-supported principles and practices.  They support staff in their interactions with women, provide opportunities to reexamine current practice, lay groundwork for further discussion of current practice, and inspire staff to increase their effectiveness in the supervision and case management of women on community supervision. This project is designed to provide gender-responsive content that can be delivered in short bursts, as a means of reinforcing desired practices, while being cost-effective and respectful of staff time.
