Description:

The U.S. Department of State, U.S. Embassy in Dakar, Senegal, announces an Open Competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that will train regional journalists in investigative journalism specific to combatting Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and illicit trafficking of humans, wildlife and forestry products.

Projects should increase public awareness by training at least 18 journalists from Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Mauritania, and Senegal, via a one-time multiple day training in Senegal, in investigative journalism specific to IUU fishing and trafficking of humans, wildlife and forestry products. Projects should include the selection of participants and all logistics necessary to attend the training. Training must be delivered with interpretation in English, French and Portuguese. Written course material must also be provided in the designated three languages.

Projects should be designed to achieve the following:

Objective 1: Provide journalists an in-depth understanding of the impact and trends related to Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and the illicit trafficking of humans, wildlife and forestry products.

Objective 2: Provide journalists techniques and best practices to publish or produce written or audio-visual products as well as effective methods to release information.
