The OVW Legal Assistance for Victims (LAV) Grant Program targets organizations providing services solely within Washington, DC. Non-nonprofit applicants must collaborate with existing DC-based nonprofit sexual assault or domestic violence service providers. The grant’s primary goal is to expand access to civil and criminal legal assistance for adult and youth victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Funds support victims pursuing legal remedies arising from their abuse. Crucially, while criminal legal aid is covered for violence-related matters, this grant explicitly prohibits the use of funds for criminal defense services.
