The purpose of this modification is to announce a new thrust topic in the Technology Demonstration Area. NASA Space Biology is expanding its spaceflight research to conduct studies beyond the Van Allen Belts to investigate how life responds to, and is affected by, the deep space environment. The first investigation is a pathfinder on the Orion EM-1 mission that will conduct Principal Investigator (PI) hypothesis-driven experiments to characterize the impact of the deep space environment on biological physiology, and provide initial experience for developing and conducting research on this new platform and in this new environment. This announcement is for the development and production of Experiment Hardware Systems, separate powered and passive systems, for conducting space biology research on the Orion EM-1 mission.
