Description: This Funding Announcement is not a request for applications. This announcement is to provide public notice of the National Park Service (NPS), intention to fund the following project activities without competition.

OVERVIEW

Approximately 1600 feet of historic dry-laid stone walls bordering the Home of FDR National Historic Site is in differing states of deterioration and collapse. Conditions range from failure of top course of wall to complete collapse.

The NPS and DSCI will undertake the restoration and preservation of approximately 1600 feet of the wall as a partnership training activity with youths from Groundwork USA local affiliate Groundwork Hudson Valley. Groundwork USA, under cooperative agreement H2495090024 with the National Park Service, works to provide youth from diverse backgrounds with hands-on training, skill development and career exploration in the preservation, conservation and restoration of natural and cultural resources. The NPS and DSCI will provide hands-on training for 12 Groundwork USA Youth Work Crew members and 1 Groundwork USA Youth Work Crew leader.

The training curriculum will include: introduction to the theories, uses and basic principles of dry stone construction; class room presentation on NPS Cultural Resource Management, Preservation Philosophy and Methodologies and practical hands-on instruction while rehabilitating a dry stone wall.

STATEMENT OF JOINT OBJECTIVES/PROJECT MANAGEMENT PLAN

Complete training curriculum to provide hands-on training for 12 Groundwork USA Youth Work Crew members and 1 Groundwork USA Youth Work Crew leader to complete the rehabilitation of dry stone boundary walls at the Home of FDR National Historic Site.

RECIPIENT INVOLVEMENT

Coordinate training curriculum with the NPS to provide hands-on training for 12 Groundwork USA Youth Work Crew members and 1 Groundwork USA Youth Work Crew leader to complete the rehabilitation of dry stone boundary walls at the Home of FDR National Historic Site. DSCI to provide the trainers in the dry stone crafts and methodologies to accomplish the site based training activities.

NATIONAL PARK SERVICE INVOLVEMENT

Coordinate participation for the training session, specifically 12 Groundwork USA Youth Work Crew members and 1 Groundwork USA Youth Work Crew leader for 40 hours per week for a total of 6 weeks. NPS will provide instructor to assist DSCI with preservation philosophy classroom instruction component of the training session.
