The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ Office of Citizen Exchanges announces the SportsUnited: International Sports Programming Initiative grant. This grant supports public and private non-profit organizations (501(c)(3)) in promoting mutual understanding via youth sports. It seeks proposals that enhance the professional capacity of those managing youth sports programs for males and females aged 7-17, and/or their coaches and administrators. Projects must develop programs in specific countries across Africa, East Asia & Pacific, Near East & North Africa, South & Central Asia, Europe & Eurasia, and the Western Hemisphere. Proposals focusing on training elite athletes or coaches are not eligible.

| Description: | The Office of Citizen Exchanges of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs announces an open competition for the FY 2013 SportsUnited: International Sports Programming Initiative. Public and private non-profit organizations meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 U.S.C. 501(c)(3) may submit proposals for projects designed to reach out to youth and promote mutual understanding by increasing the professional capacity of those who design and manage youth sports programs in select countries in Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, the Near East and North Africa, South and Central Asia, Europe and Eurasia, and the Western Hemisphere. The focus of all programs must be on reaching out to both male and female youth ages 7-17 and/or their coaches/administrators. Programs designed to train elite athletes or coaches will not be considered. Eligible countries and territories in each region are: Africa: Benin, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, and Tanzania; East Asia and the Pacific: Cambodia, China (Mainland China), Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam; Near East and North Africa: Bahrain, Egypt, and Oman; South and Central Asia: Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Tajikistan; Europe and Eurasia: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey; and the Western Hemisphere: Belize, Colombia, El Salvador, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. |
