This National Park Service grant is for the purpose of enhancing aquatic invasive species (AIS) control and prevention efforts within the Lake Superior basin. It seeks to synthesize existing knowledge on AIS threats and disseminate this vital information through various public education channels. A key focus is supporting AIS management at Grand Portage National Monument, which in turn benefits adjacent national park areas like Isle Royale National Park. By educating park visitors and the broader public, particularly those using waterways like the significant portion passing through Grand Portage to Isle Royale, this initiative aims to intercept and prevent the spread of AIS. This collaborative effort among Lake Superior’s national park units is crucial for protecting the basin’s ecological health.

Additional Information
Agency Name: | National Park Service |
Description: | This agreement seeks to synthesize available knowledge about AIS threats to the Lake Superior basin, and to publish and disseminate this knowledge through a variety of public education channels in order to aid in the control and prevention of aquatic invasive species (AIS). In particular, the project is meant to support AIS management at Grand Portage National Monument, which will also benefit adjacent national park areas such as Isle Royale National Park,(approximately 1/3 of the users of ISRO pass through GRPO by boat, presenting an important opportunity for NPS to intercept AIS and to educate potential host). National park units around Lake Superior are working in concert to both control AIS, as well as to educate park visitors and the general public about ways they can help in this effort. |
