This grant aims to establish a clinical consortium focused on youth-onset Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). The initiative seeks to recruit and study a cohort of early pubertal youth at risk for T2D throughout their pubertal development. A primary objective is to enhance the precise prediction of individuals truly susceptible to youth-onset T2D and identify key factors driving progression from prediabetes. This understanding will facilitate the development and testing of targeted prevention strategies. Furthermore, the grant seeks to deepen knowledge of the physiological mechanisms underlying youth-onset T2D. This research will inform the creation of more effective interventions for achieving glycemic control and preserving vital beta cell function in affected youth.
