Description: Social media usage is rapidly growing in Afghanistan. It is estimated that in major urban areas hundreds of thousands of users, particulary young people, have internet access and are avid users of social media. Therefore, the Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan is pleased to invite all eligible organizations to submit a proposal for a Social Media Summit to occur in the summer of 2013, with social media training in the provinces over the following six months. This national summit will be an opportunity for Afghans to highlight social media as a legitimate platform for communication, as well as provide an opportunity for active users of blogs, Facebook, and Twitter to exchange ideas and information. Following the national summit, a series of training sessions in 5-6 provinces will offer basic social media training for beginners and promote the use of social media throughout the country.
