This grant is for the purpose of funding crucial Consultation and Documentation projects under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). Consultation projects specifically support efforts to revise NAGPRA inventories and effectively make or respond to requests for the repatriation of cultural items. Documentation projects are designed to determine the geographical origin, cultural affiliation, and other essential historical facts surrounding the acquisition of Native American cultural items. The fundamental aim of both consultation and documentation activities funded by this grant is to ultimately determine the appropriate control, treatment, repatriation, and final disposition of these significant NAGPRA cultural items, ensuring respectful resolution.
